🐾 A little about Radley

Radley is a sensitive, affectionate and intelligent boy who, through no fault of his own, has had a difficult time recently. Following the loss of his beloved owner and canine companion within just one week of each other, Radley has experienced huge changes to the life he once knew. Understandably, this has left him feeling anxious and unsettled, and he is now looking for a special home where he can feel safe, secure and loved again.

Behind his initial uncertainty is a truly loving soul who wants nothing more than companionship, reassurance and someone he can trust. Radley can be hesitant around unfamiliar people and may take a little time to feel comfortable, but once he gets to know you, his affectionate personality really begins to shine.

Radley is very much a dog who needs to be understood rather than judged on first impressions. With time, patience and a calm, consistent approach, the dog you see initially is not necessarily the dog you will come to know. Give him the chance to settle and build that bond, and you will discover a boy who loves to please, enjoys a cuddle and has so much love to give.

🐶 His personality and needs

Radley can be reactive in certain situations, including people knocking at the door, some dogs when walking on a lead, and the sound of his owner’s mobile phone ringing. Sudden or unexpected noises can startle him, and he can sometimes struggle to contain his excitement.

He is also sensitive to laundry and bin bags being shaken or flapped, dislikes having his paws touched, and is not suitable for a home with cats.

These are important things for a prospective home to understand, but they do not define Radley. He has already responded well to work on his heeling, showing that he is capable of learning and making progress with the right guidance. His recall also needs further work, and he would benefit from someone who is willing to continue his training using patience, consistency and positive reinforcement.

Radley is both house-trained and crate-trained, giving him a good foundation to build upon in his new home.

🏡 What would Radley’s ideal home look like?

Radley would benefit from an experienced, understanding owner who is willing to look beyond his initial anxieties and help him grow in confidence at his own pace.

His ideal home would offer:

  • A quiet, calm and predictable environment, preferably without children.
  • Someone around for much of the day, as he has previously been used to plenty of company.
  • An owner with experience of dogs, particularly those who may be anxious or reactive.
  • Plenty of reassurance, affection and patience, without putting him under pressure.
  • A willingness to continue working on his lead walking, recall and confidence around triggers.
  • Time to allow him to settle gradually and build trust with unfamiliar people.

We also feel Radley may benefit from living with a friendly, well-matched dog who could offer companionship. Having lost his canine companion, he may be missing the comfort of having another dog around. This would need to be carefully assessed, with suitable introductions, as Radley can find some on-lead dog encounters difficult. A home without another dog may also be possible if his need for company and reassurance can be met.

🎾 The things that make Radley happy

For all his sensitivities, Radley has plenty of lovely little quirks and simple pleasures that make him special!

He loves:

  • Going for walks and enjoying time outdoors.
  • Playing ball and spending time with his favourite people.
  • Chewing antlers and enjoying a stuffed Kong.
  • Curling up on the sofa, especially burrowing underneath throws for a good roll and a grumble!
  • Showing affection through cuddles and the occasional enthusiastic lick.
  • Trying his best to please the people he trusts.
  • Taking a carrot to bed at night and enjoying a little treat during the day.
  • His favourite foods, including tinned corned beef, sardines and mackerel.

Above all, Radley loves companionship. He has been accustomed to having people around throughout the day, so a home where he is not routinely left alone for long periods would be best suited to him.

💙 What Radley needs most

Radley isn’t looking for perfection. He is looking for understanding.

He needs someone who will recognise that his reactions come with sensitivities that deserve patience and thoughtful management. Someone who will celebrate the little victories, respect his boundaries and give him the time he needs to feel secure again.

In return, there is the potential for a wonderfully rewarding bond with a loving, intelligent and affectionate dog who simply needs a little help finding his feet again.

He has lost so much in such a short time, and we want his next chapter to be a happy one.

Could you be the person who gives Radley the fresh start he deserves?

With the right home, kind guidance and plenty of love, we believe Radley has so much potential to blossom into a wonderful companion. He deserves the chance to feel safe, understood and cherished again. ❤️
